Record of cause of people's death (1st story)

As light took away the darkness and my senses came flushing back, I was aware of why I was sleeping in an alley and why I had no memory of the recent days. The back of my head ached and I gritted my teeth to stop myself from yelling.

That was when I felt a tap on my shoulder.

Turning around, I saw a man with scars on his face standing before me. He tried introducing himself but I just couldn’t figure out who he was. Frizzy hair, brown skin, round head… I was finding a thing to trigger my memory. Unfortunately, this man was so new to me.

He then claimed to be my friend. He said that we had worked together before. We walked out of the alley slowly as he said that I was a robber before I lost my memory. I had robbed a bank and taken away many bars of gold while he was covering me so that I could hide the gold. After that night, he wanted to ask me where the gold was so that we could separate them among ourselves. Then, before he reached me in the alley which was the meeting point, he found me knocked out. So he sat beside knocked-out me and waited for me to wake up which was two days after the incident.

When we turned around a corner, a masked man caught me and tried to punch me. My partner swiftly knocked the attacker out with his elbow. Then he pulled my hand, forcing me to run. I could hear the shouting behind me, and I could see silver weapons soaring above my partner’s head. We stopped behind a large recycle bin and my partner pulled out a knife and flew it towards the chasers, then we ran again. Several knives flew towards us, and my partner used his body to block some of them. I looked back and saw blood spilling from his shoulder, dying his sky blue shirt with red.

“ Dango boys, triad members, do you have any places to hide from these idiots?” He asked me. I looked around desperately and found nothing to hide ourselves. “ We have to fight back.” My friend said, after reading my disappointed face. He took six knives out and turned around. I was impulsive to stop him for doing this, I said,” I will do this. You have done so much for me, friend.” He was shocked to see my stern face.

Then he passed the knives to me.

It was familiar to hold the knife again. I aimed at the chasers and flicked the knives one by one, sending them flying backwards. They fell on the ground and moved no more. My friend said, “These idiots! They will not let us get the gold if they don’t. We have to go to the place you have hidden the gold now, or they will catch on us again.” After all the things happened in this short time, I was able to remember the night I robbed the bank, but I had no idea where I had hidden it. Then three words flashed in my brain: search for silver cross. I looked around and saw a graveyard and an abandoned old house. Maybe in the graveyard, I walked closer and was surprised to see a silver cross on a tombstone. It reflected the sunlight and flickered. Might be a possible match, I thought. I walked nearer and saw some soil beside the tombstone was not too flat at all. Of course, a robber would have buried the gold in some places other people don’t want to go, like graveyard.

My friend was clearly delighted to hear my deduction and started digging with a shovel he prepared earlier. After a few moments, we saw a glitter of gold. We dug faster and a bag of gold bars revealed. I hugged my friend tightly and said, “Thank you. I now have retrieved my memory and I promised these gold bars are ours.”

“Maybe not!” he said in low grumbling voice as I felt a fatal pain beside my heart. I staggered backwards, gasping for air. Crimson blood was spilling out of the wound. My sight was blurring in all of a sudden, I could only see the man zipping the bag and pulling it away from me. I stretched my hand, but only I heard a sneer from the man. I could tell by the darkness eating at the corners of my vision, like some malignant computer virus.

Would this be the last thing I remembered which was my ‘friend’ betraying me just for some gold?
